Seven people, one committee, one budget. Two good projects and a rival division. Play your role, guard your secret, and get the committee to a decision you can defend with numbers.
How it works. Your class is split into groups of 7. In each group every student plays a different role on their own phone or laptop. Everyone sees the same proposals; each role also gets private information and a personal objective. The facilitator announces four events during the meeting. At the end your group votes, and the debrief shows what the numbers say under every assumption.
September 2025 · All amounts in US$ thousands unless stated · A fictional teaching scenario (Heirloom Lane Doll Company).
Change one assumption at a time and watch both NPVs. Find the two numbers that best support your objective. The proposals start as the sponsors submitted them (Leah left the IT staff out).
PI = PV of future cash flows ÷ 2025 outlay (Ross–Westerfield–Jaffe). Payback ignores the terminal value.
Rule of the committee room: every claim needs a number. Write your statement with at least two numbers and one assumption.
Elena chairs. Follow the agenda. Open each event only when your facilitator announces it. The person named on the card reads it out.
Each event sets an assumption. Your group can overrule it: change the switches until they match what your group agrees.
Vote as your character would, but you must be able to defend it with numbers.
Your instructor will announce the debrief code once every group has voted.
Collect each group's decision (hands up or a chit) and enter it here. Project this screen for the debrief. Saved only in this browser.
Individual votes arrive in your Google Form (Responses → link to Sheets). Use this screen for the group decisions you project in class.
For a no-device backup: print this page (Ctrl/Cmd + P). Each role prints on its own page, including the secret. Cut and hand out.
